Dr. John L. Bishop, D.D.S.
Dr. Bishop, a native of Charlotte, has practiced general dentistry in
his home town for more than 23 years. He attended UNC-Chapel
Hill for both his undergraduate degree (BA in Chemistry) and his dental
degree (Doctor of Dental Surgery) before joining his father's dental practice
in 1985. In addition, he attended UNC-Charlotte during 1990s
to acquire an additional degree (BA in English).
Dr. Bishop is a member of the American Dental Association and its constituent, the North Carolina Dental Society; and the Academy of General Dentistry (an organization that promotes life-long learning for general dentists) and its constituent, the North Carolina Academy of General Dentistry. He has served in numerous volunteer positions in the local dental society, and with the North Carolina Academy of General Dentistry, including serving as president of the NCAGD, 2003-2004. Currently he volunteers several days each year providing free dental services at the local homeless shelter and is active in his church, serving as a member of the choir, the adult ensemble and the men's a cappella group, and extended day volunteer. Over the years, he has been a Boy Scout parent, church basketball coach, "Room at the Inn" volunteer, and has worn many other "hats" raising his son, Zach, and serving his community though dentistry and through church. In his free time, Dr. Bishop most enjoys golf, reading, playing the piano, and running.
Dr. Bishop is proud to follow in the tradition of his late father, Dr. E. L. "Bud" Bishop, who served the people of Charlotte through dentistry for nearly fifty years. That tradition insists on placing the needs of the patient ahead of those of the dentist and always considers the basic proposition that one should, as a practicing dentist, offer only that level of intelligently considered and thoughtful service and treatment that the dentist would want for himself under similar circumstances. This fundamental belief, a belief that appears to be more and more scarce in a time of glitz, hype and boastfulness, continues to serve Dr. Bishop's patients well and will continue to be the guiding principle of his dental practice into the future.
